Israelis commemorate second remembrance of 7 October attacks as Gaza ceasefire negotiations continue
Citizens have assembled across the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-led offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations advanced in the neighboring country over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.
The assault led to over 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single deadliest day for Jewish people since the World War II.
Israel responded by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered reliable by the United Nations and other international bodies.
"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister stated on that day.
He also pledged to "realize all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will never again pose a threat to Israel".
Remembrance Events Across Israel
The national leadership delayed formal commemorations until mid-October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still were held around the country on that day.
A commemorative event for the relatives of people who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was organized in the coastal city. Arranged by the affected families, it was aired throughout Israeli broadcast stations.
A period earlier, a silent tribute was observed across the country.
Peace Talks in Egypt
Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to examine the conditions of the proposal.
A high-ranking Palestinian official involved in the negotiations said that an late session of mediated discussions commenced at evening in Egypt.
The official said the morning session ended without concrete outcomes, because of differences over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not recommence combat after the first phase of the agreement.
He added that the discussions are "tough and have yet to produce any major advancement," but noted that intermediaries are striving to close the disparities between the both parties.

Citizen Reaction
In the city's public square earlier, young a woman - whose family member lived through the attack on the outdoor event, where many attendees were lost their lives and numerous more were abducted by Hamas militants - shared: "No location feels like home anymore and until each abducted person come back no one will have peace of mind."
"When we see everyone home once more, we can relax once more. Then we can begin to rebuild," she continued.
In front of the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people gathered to demonstrate their solidarity for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel reports nearly fifty stay in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be surviving.
Demonstrator a participant explained: "We must do any agreement necessary for the hostages to be released. But we truly desire promises that we will be secure."
Opinion polls now consistently show that around seventy percent of the population desire the war to finish in return for the liberation of the captives.
Gaza Situation
At the area of the music event, grieving people assembled to remember the victims.
From the site, the noise of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses said the heavy Israeli shelling carried on.
In Gaza City, bombardments were documented in the morning of Tuesday in the western district, area and zone neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City announced it had taken in the bodies of six people by the afternoon, including a trio killed in an Israeli strike in the south part district.
Nasser hospital in the south region of that area said two more fatalities had been transported. One of them was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while looking for assistance to the south, medics stated.
