It: Welcome to Derry Releases Episode Two Ahead of Schedule on HBO Max

Fans are eagerly awaiting for the Stephen King adaptation Welcome to Derry, already garnering praise and drawing from references from the broader King universe. Following the premiere, the broadcaster has revealed that the next chapter will arrive early, scheduled ideally for Halloween.

Premiere Shift Information

Starting on the last day of October at midnight PT, the second episode of the Derry prequel will premiere on the streaming service, prior to its Sunday HBO premiere. Subsequent episodes of the series run will premiere on Sundays on HBO and HBO Max, culminating in the season finale on the 14th of December.

Show Background

Set in Stephen King’s It universe, It: Welcome to Derry is inspired by the original story while enlarging the setting brought to life by the It movie director in It and It Chapter Two. The first It movie centered on young characters facing unimaginable horrors, so it’s fitting that the prequel follows in those footsteps. Yet, the first installment of the HBO series shows it set out to raise the stakes, offering more frightening moments than the movies and setting a brutal tone for what's to come.

Story World and Concepts

Set in 1962, this show introduces a different group of parents and youngsters inhabiting a apparently peaceful community hiding a evil heart. This place follows a cruel, recurring cycle—one marked by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a evil entity reappears each 27-year cycle. Even though Welcome to Derry might seem like it strays too near to the movies initially, what sets apart the streaming show is its parallel storytelling—unfolding through the eyes of both children and adults concurrently. Children stay particularly vulnerable to the entity's fear, but the adults also face confronting their individual fears stemming from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and lurking supernatural forces.

The series debuts on the 31st of October at 3 a.m. EST.
