Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Chants About Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has joined Sheffield United just half a year after starting insulting taunts aimed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year time with Leeds was ended amicably this past summer.

Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading abusive chants about Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the one-cap England international is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to lift the team he loves away from the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Involving Bamford and the Manager

Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight last season while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

All appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford aiming to resurrect his playing days.

The song about Wilder gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Challenges

Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
