Peak Pizza? Domino's Pizza CEO Steps Down Following Pivot Towards Fried Chicken.

The head of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who proposed the United Kingdom might have reached peak pizza while expanding the franchise into fried chicken has been replaced after tensions with its directors.

Executive Change

Rennie is leaving after a brief tenure in charge, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Nicola Frampton, while the pizza giant seeks a long-term chief.

Rennie, who was with Domino's for over 20 years, had sought to shift Britain's largest pizza takeaway chain towards chicken offerings, stating in a recent interview there was not “massive growth” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He observed poultry was the quickest rising food category in the globe.

Board Disagreements

Sources suggest that there was tension between Rennie and the governance team over his strategy and direction, although the company's official statement said he was departing “as a joint decision”.

Recent Product Introduction

In the autumn, Domino's unveiled its poultry brand – which Rennie called a “major strategic shift” for the organization – and is piloting it in 210 outlets in the north-west of England and the province.

While the firm is still intending to launch it across its extensive network in 2026 as planned, it considers fried chicken as complementary to its core pizza business.

Board Statement

The Domino's chair, the company chair, said: “We are confident that there are a series of prospects to enhance value and performance improvement in the main pizza segment. We are focused on selecting the ideal CEO to oversee the systematic rollout of that development approach.”

Industry Challenges

Earlier this month, Domino's, which has a substantial customer base in the British Isles, said transactions declined by 1.5 percent in the Q3. In the summer, it cautioned that the takeaway market had “intensified” as it blamed reduced spending in the period before the government announcement and increasing labor expenses for below-target performance and a 15% drop in six-month income.

Other pizza operators are also facing challenges. Another major chain announced the closing of dozens of outlets a last month, after the company behind its outlets fell into administration.

Wellness Efforts

Trying to keep up with consumer trends towards better nutrition, the company has introduced light products, such as its thin-crust selection of bakes below 400 kcal as well as meat-free and gluten-free pizzas. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 kcals. A big margherita has 2,171, while a individual has 909 calories.

Acting Management

Frampton has been with Domino's since 2021, and was formerly with the gambling company a well-known operator. It is believed that she prefers not to take on the top job permanently.

Frampton stated: “We have a number of active development and efficiency programs that we will be dedicated to carrying out at speed.”

She added these included further work on the company's logistics network and new item creation, and its customer retention initiative.

The pizza chain is also in need of a permanent CFO until March 16, when a new appointee comes aboard from the Irish cider and beer maker a well-known firm. In the meantime, Snow serves as interim finance chief.
