Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant backing from above,” Slot remarked.

“It's important to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”

He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Issues and Player Reaction

The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.

“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with performances this poor.”

He finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”

“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
